As part of the Super Block initiative, Dubai is all set to promote sustainable mobility with car-free zones. Plans are afoot to transform designated urban areas into pro-pedestrian zones, prioritizing pedestrians and cyclists.
The move aims to enhance the quality of life and boost social interaction via shared recreational spaces in the city. The following are the areas where the first leg of the project will take shape —

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, announced the Super Block initiative on X. The initiative is in sync with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which focuses on the following —
- Improving infrastructure
- Reducing carbon emissions
- Enhancing pedestrian access
- Boosting soft mobility
- Creating a greener and more sustainable urban ecosystem
A blueprint is in the offing for a 6,500 km network of modern walkways across the city spanning 160 areas. The Dubai Walk master plan includes —
- Constructing 3,300 km of new walkways
- Rehabilitation of 2,300 current pathways by 2040
- Creating over 900 km of new walkways planned beyond 2040
These proactive initiatives show Dubai’s objective of setting new global standards in societal care, infrastructure, and digital innovation.
