Dubai dubbed the world’s cleanest city for the 5th consecutive year

Dubai retains its tag as the world’s cleanest city five times in a row.

According to the latest GPCI (i.e., Global Power City Index) assessment published by the Institute for Urban Strategies at the Mori Memorial Foundation (Japan), Dubai has bagged the top spot in the world for city cleanliness for the fifth consecutive year. Leaving behind 47 global cities, Dubai scored 100% in the statistic assessing city cleanliness as per the environment pillar, one of the primary criteria that measures the global strength of cities.

Dubai Municipality’s implementation of integrated plans and initiatives in collaboration with partners in the public and private sectors has yielded this result. These initiatives are in sync with the Dubai Integrated Garbage Management Strategy 2041, which aims to divert 100% of garbage from landfills and reduce waste production by 18% by 2041.

The Dubai Municipality oversees a high-tech sustainability and cleaning system complemented by a fleet of 855 automobiles, trucks, and equipment. Several daily cleaning programs at various locations help keep the city clean. Some of these programs include cleaning –

  • 2,400 km of major roads and highways
  • 1,419 square km of investment zones
  • 33.4 km of water canals and creeks
  • residential, commercial, rural areas, marketplaces & waste storage facilities

Other initiatives of the Dubai Municipality include the following –

  • removal of abandoned vehicles & equipment
  • community e-services like disposing of domestic furniture
  • supervising the treatment and removal of hazardous & medical waste
  • monitoring vehicles used in the private sector for collecting and transporting rubbish via E-Systems
  • using the latest technologies to minimize carbon emissions, boost energy use, and ensure the sustainability of natural resources

With its goal of being a Pioneering Municipality for a Global City, Dubai continues to pursue new initiatives and reforms to provide its residents and visitors with an ecological environment.
